ITINERARY. 3 DAY DESERT TOUR FROM MARRAKECH TO FES

Our 3-Day Desert Tour from Marrakech to Fes offers you the opportunity to have a rich desert experience, where you will ride camels and spend a night in a magical desert camp. On the way you will discover some of the most interesting places in Morocco such as Ifrane, Ceder forest in Azrou, Ziz Valley, Gorges of Todra and Dades Valley, the Ksar of Ait benhadou, the Atlas Mountains and more. This is the best route to travel from Fes and Marrakech if you want to discover more of Morocco on the way and desert experience that you carry with you forever.

1st DAY: Marrakech – Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Roses & Dades Valley

To start the 3 days tour from Marrakech to Fes you will be picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech in the morning. Then, we will head towards the Sahara desert. You will enjoy some incredible scenery along the way!

On our way to the Sahara desert, we will cross the High Atlas Mountains, near Marrakech, reaching an elevation of 2260m above sea level at the Tizi´n tichka pass, the highest mountain in North Africa.

Our next stop will be Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village listed as UNESCO World Heritage site. Ait Ben Haddou  is the most famous ksar, a group of dwellings made of adobe (sand, clay, water and sometimes organic material such as straw or manure), which, once moulded, is left to dry in the sun.  Its earthen architectural style, typical of southern Morocco, has been preserved over centuries and you will observe that it is in perfect harmony with the natural environment and lifestyle of the city.

We will have lunch near the Kasbah before driving to Ouarzazate (also known as the “Hollywood of Africa”) and continue to Skoura, the first stop on the 1,000 kasbahs road between Ouarzazate and Tafilalet. According to the legend, it was founded in the 12th century under the Almohad dynasty. The palm grove takes its name from the Berber tribe that lived there at that time, the Haskourene. Since then, several populations have followed one another, including the Arab tribes from the Tafilalet, making Skoura an Arab territory in the Berber country.

After Skoura, we continue through the Roses Valley a tight slithering valley in the stony High Atlas Mountains of central Morocco, better known as the Valley of 1000 Kasbahs. In spring, the terraced fields that hang above the threaded M’Goun River are a riot of pink blooms that strike a stunning contrast to the orange, purple, yellow and red banded mountains.

Our last stop of the first day is Boumalne Dades, where we will stay overnight in a riad

2nd DAY: Dades – Todra Gorges – El Jorf – Erfoud – Merzouga (Night in Erg Chebbi Desert)

Once you have breakfast and are ready to start the day, we will resume our journey to the Sahara desert.  We will visit the Oasis, Valleys and old Berber villages along the way and will make our first stop at Todra Gorges, where you will discover one of the most spectacular canyons in the world. Next, we will drive to Tenhir, Tinjdad and Jorf  a Berber Village where we will have lunch.

Erfoud is the beginning of the Sahara Berber Villages and the Oasis desert. Important to mention the Tafilalt Oasis is the largest Saharan oasis of Morocco, which comprises the fortified villages of Erfoud, Arab Sebbah du Ziz, Rissani, Seffalat, Aoufous, and Jorf, together with palm groves stretching 30 miles (50 km). We will drive through this Oasis to the dunes of the Erg Chebbi, where we will finally welcome the Sahara desert.

Our desert adventure starts crossing the sand dunes on a camel or in a 4×4. Here, you will be able to take stunning pictures of the sunset.  Then, we will get to our Merzouga luxury desert camp, where you will have time to walk around and admire the sand dunes. Time stops here, enjoy the feeling of serenity and tranquillity.

We will finish our day with food and Berber Drums music around a campfire. After your dinner, you will have free time to observe the sheer beauty of the stars.

You can find more information about the Sahara experience in the camp tab.

3rd DAY: Merzouga Desert- Midlet – Ifrane – Fes

On the last day we will drive to Fes and on the way discover Midlet and Ifrane, the so-called Moroccan Switzerland. We will leave you in your riad (traditional Moroccan accommodation) in Fes.
