4 days Morocco Itinerary: Day-by-Day Details
Day 1: Casablanca ➔ Rabat ➔ Fes (295 km | 4.5 hours driving)
Your Morocco itinerary 4 days begins in Casablanca, where your driver will greet you and help you get settled for the trip ahead. If your schedule allows, you can start with a visit to the impressive Hassan II Mosque—one of the largest in the world, set along the Atlantic coast. Afterward, you’ll drive to Rabat, Morocco’s capital, where you can stretch your legs and explore key landmarks such as the Kasbah of the Udayas, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Hassan Tower. In the afternoon, the journey continues inland toward Fes. The drive takes around 2.5 to 3 hours, passing rolling hills and rural farmland along the way. By evening, you’ll check into a traditional riad tucked inside the ancient medina. You’ll have time to settle in, enjoy dinner either at the riad or nearby, and rest up for a full day tomorrow.
Day 2: Fes ➔ Ifrane ➔ Azrou ➔ Midelt ➔ Ziz Valley ➔ Merzouga (470 km | 7.5 hours driving)
After breakfast at your riad in Fes, you’ll head south toward the Sahara. Your first stop is Ifrane, a small town often nicknamed the “Switzerland of Morocco” thanks to its alpine-style architecture and tidy parks. From there, continue through the cedar forests of Azrou, where you might see Barbary macaques in their natural habitat. Around midday, you’ll stop in Midelt, a mountain town known for its apple orchards and views of the High Atlas, for a relaxed lunch. The scenery shifts dramatically as you drive through the Ziz Valley, with wide stretches of palm groves and cliff-side villages. In the late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Merzouga on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. From here, you’ll ride a camel into the desert just before sunset, heading toward your camp among the dunes. After settling into your private tent, enjoy a warm dinner followed by traditional music under the stars.
Day 3: Merzouga ➔ Erfoud ➔ Todra Gorges ➔ Dades Valley (270 km | 5.5 hours driving)
Start your day early with the option to watch the sunrise over the dunes, a peaceful moment that many travelers find unforgettable. After breakfast at the desert camp, you’ll return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4. Then you’ll head toward Erfoud, a small town known for its fossil workshops and date markets. The road continues to the Todra Gorges, where sheer limestone cliffs create a natural corridor perfect for walking and photos. After exploring the gorge, you’ll drive through the green valleys and rock formations of Tinghir and Boumalne Dades. By late afternoon, you’ll reach Dades Valley and check into a cozy riad with views of the valley. Dinner will be served on-site, allowing you to relax after the day’s drive.
Day 4: Dades Valley ➔ Ouarzazate ➔ Ait Ben Haddou ➔ Marrakech (325 km | 6.5 hours driving)
After breakfast, you’ll continue west through the Valley of the Roses and pass the palm groves of Skoura. In Ouarzazate, known as Morocco’s “Hollywood,” you can visit Atlas Film Studios or explore the historic Kasbah Taourirt. The next stop is the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village made of mud brick that has appeared in numerous films and TV shows. You’ll have time to walk through its narrow paths and climb to the top for panoramic views. After lunch in the area, you’ll begin the scenic drive across the High Atlas Mountains, passing through the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 meters above sea level). The road is winding but beautiful, with mountain views and small Berber villages along the way. By early evening, you’ll arrive in Marrakech, where your driver will drop you off at your hotel or riad in the medina, concluding your 4-day Morocco itinerary.
