DAY-BY-DAY MOROCCO 6 DAY ITINERARY:
DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN CASABLANCA ➔ RABAT ➔ CHEFCHAOUEN (330 KM / 5.5 HRS)
Your 6-day Morocco itinerary begins at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, where your driver will meet you. After a quick airport pick-up, you’ll head into the city to visit the Hassan II Mosque. Located right by the Atlantic Ocean, this mosque is one of the largest in the world and is known for its stunning architecture, hand-carved details, and sea-facing prayer hall. Even if you’re not Muslim, you can admire its exterior and enjoy the ocean breeze.
From Casablanca, you’ll continue north to Rabat, the political capital of Morocco. Here, you’ll take a short walking tour through some of the city’s most important landmarks: the Kasbah of the Udayas, where white and blue houses overlook the river, the Hassan Tower, and the nearby Mausoleum of Mohammed V. These spots offer a nice mix of history and local atmosphere.
In the afternoon, the journey continues through the Rif Mountains. The road winds through green hills and valleys before bringing you to Chefchaouen. You’ll arrive in the early evening and check in to a riad in the medina. Chefchaouen is known for its peaceful vibe and blue-painted buildings. You’ll have time to walk around and get a feel for the town before dinner.
DAY 2: CHEFCHAOUEN ➔ FES (200 KM / 4 HRS)
After breakfast at your riad, you’ll have time to explore more of Chefchaouen. This small town is easy to navigate and filled with photo-worthy spots. Walk through its narrow streets, visit the main square, and browse shops selling handmade crafts like woven blankets, pottery, and leather goods. You may also want to stop for mint tea at a café with a mountain view.
Later in the day, you’ll leave Chefchaouen and drive southeast to Fes. The road passes through scenic countryside and small villages. You’ll reach Fes in the late afternoon and check in to a traditional riad inside the old medina. The rest of the day is free for you to relax or enjoy a quiet evening in the riad.
DAY 3: GUIDED TOUR OF FES
Today is all about discovering Fes, one of Morocco’s oldest and most interesting cities. After breakfast, you’ll meet your local guide for a walking tour of the medina. Fes el-Bali is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, full of history and daily life. As you walk, your guide will show you major sites like the Bou Inania Madrasa (a historic Islamic school), the University of Al Quaraouiyine (the oldest existing university in the world), and the Chouara Tannery, where leather is still dyed by hand.
You’ll also visit the Jewish Quarter (Mellah), see the large gates of the Royal Palace, and explore the different craft sections of the medina where artisans work on pottery, brass, and wood. The medina is busy and full of sights, sounds, and smells—spices, fresh bread, and leather. It’s a great way to understand the daily life of Moroccans in an ancient setting. After the tour, you’ll return to your riad for the night.
DAY 4: FES ➔ IFRANE ➔ MIDDLE ATLAS ➔ ZIZ VALLEY ➔ MERZOUGA (460 KM / 7.5 HRS)
Today you’ll travel from the city to the desert. You’ll start by driving through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Your first stop is Ifrane, a small town often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” because of its clean streets and chalet-style houses. Next, you’ll stop in the cedar forests near Azrou, where you might see wild Barbary monkeys.
After a lunch break in Midelt, you’ll continue south, following the Ziz Valley. This area is known for its date palm trees, riverbanks, and old kasbahs. The scenery changes as you leave the green valley behind and enter a drier, desert-like landscape.
In the afternoon, you’ll arrive in Merzouga, right on the edge of the Sahara. From here, you’ll ride camels into the Erg Chebbi dunes. The camel ride is peaceful and gives you time to take in the view as the sun begins to set. After about an hour, you’ll reach your desert camp. Dinner is served at camp, followed by local music and time to relax under the stars.
DAY 5: MERZOUGA ➔ RISSANI ➔ TODRA GORGES ➔ DADES VALLEY (270 KM / 5 HRS)
Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the sand dunes. After breakfast, you’ll ride your camel (or take a 4×4 if you prefer) back to Merzouga. Your next stop is the town of Rissani, where you can visit the local market. This town has a traditional feel and is known as the gateway to the desert.
From Rissani, you’ll drive to the Todra Gorge. These are tall, narrow cliffs carved by a river, and it’s a great place to stretch your legs and take a walk. The road continues through the Dades Valley, which is filled with unusual rock formations and old mud-brick villages. You’ll arrive in the valley by the afternoon and spend the night in a guesthouse with beautiful views.
DAY 6: DADES VALLEY ➔ OUARZAZATE ➔ AIT BEN HADDOU ➔ MARRAKECH (320 KM / 6.5 HRS)
On your last day, you’ll head west toward Marrakech. First, you’ll pass through Ouarzazate, known for its movie studios. Many famous films have been shot here, and you’ll have time to stop at the Atlas Studios for a quick visit if you like.
Not far from Ouarzazate is Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a ksar, or fortified village, made entirely of clay and stone. It’s been featured in movies like “Gladiator” and “Game of Thrones.” You’ll walk through its narrow streets and enjoy views from the top.
After lunch, the drive takes you over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass. The road has many turns but also offers fantastic views. By late afternoon or early evening, you’ll arrive in Marrakech. Your driver will drop you off at your accommodation, and your 6-day Morocco tour will come to an end.
